This is the draft of the front cover i am going to produce for a Wyke College magazine. The magazine is aimed at pupils that attend the college aged between 16-19. It is for both male and female pupils that attend the college and it will also be suitable for staff and visitors of the college.

I analysed four magazines, including a secondary teacher magazine which have all have short, snappy titles. This showed me that if i wanted my magazine to be recognised, i too would need a short snappy title that could be remembered.

"ELLE" is a well known, high quality fashion and loifestyle magazine for femal audiences 15+ who have an interest in the world of fashion. "ELLE" is published by Hachette Filipacchi. The present editor of the magazine is LOrraine Candy.

The masthead is "ELLE" the letters are in grey which helps to make them, stand out from the white background. The masthead is partially covered by the image of Victoria Beckham, which shows how popular the magazine is as it can still be immediately recognised. IT is that larged piece of txt presented on the front cover so it stand out immediately to the audience.

The main image is of Victoria Beckham who the audience immediately recognises and will believe that she is the main feature of the magazine. She is the only image presented on the front cover which is another factor that shows the audience that she is the main feature. Victoria has been dressed in all white except the black braces that she is wearing. this immediately attracts your attention to the image. The image of Victoria is in colour where as all the rest of the front cover has been greyscaled to show impact and attraction to the image.

THere are a large variety of texts layed out over the front cover. Each of these show different features that are inside the magaine. The other text is shown in either black or grey which stand out from the background. Some of the text overlaps the image but not too much tthat it is covered, they are just being layered ontop of each other. This text is less important thank the masthead but it is still important as it reveals to the reader what the articles insider are going to be based on.

The ideology of the magazine is to put across infromation to their audience about the world of fashion and give ideas for the to used themselves. There are also stories on celebritys and articles on beauty and lifestyle. The magazine is reperesenting the women that are into the latest fashions and the designers that produce them. It also represents the High Street stores that similar fashions are available from.

"Rolling Stone" is a popular music magazine published vevery fortnight that is directed at anyone who is interested in the music industry, politics and popular culture.

The masthead is in bright red font outlined in white so it easliy attracts the attention of its audience. The masthead is partially covered up by a plug but this does not affect it as it is a very popular magazine it can be easily identified. The red could have a series of different meanings including ander, hate and danger. But on this particular magazine it looks as if it means anger as portrayed in the image.

Other than the masthead, the image is one of the frist things that attracts our attention to the magazine. The image shows two rappers, "50 Cent" and "Kanye West". Both these artists are well known and easily recognised by the audience. They are both looking directly at each other, making eye contact, but showing tension which shows that there is an immediate connection between them both which the audience will relate to as being hate or rivalry. Both artists are from ethnic backgrounds and they stand out from the pure white background. The photo is not a paparazzi shot but one set up to be this way. They both have distinguishing features, for example 50 cent is unshaven and he ius frowning which makes him look angry. Kanye West however has a cleaner complexion and more clean cut. There eyes however are partially squinted which reveals the tension that the producers whant the audience to see.

Underneath the image the headline "SHOWDOWN" is presented in bring red letters. This shows that it is an important feature and reveals the main article of the magazine. This attracts the reader as they want to find out what the showdown is about and who it is between. Directly below the headline there is a subheading, this is in black and grey font and the words get smaller as they move down a line. The sub heading states "50 Cent vs. Kanye West", "Who will be the king of hip-hop" this immedatly tells the reader that the showdown is between the two rappers and the purpose of it. This gives the reader the oppertunity to read the article in the magazine as they know the basic knowledge they need to attract their attention.

At the top of the magazine there are some extra feeatures that are included in the magazine. This is not a main focus of the front cover but gives the reader information into the rest of the magazines contents. There is also a plug that covers part of the masthead. The plug reveals a feature that is situated inside the magazine for the readers to view.

"LOOK" is a popular, weekly magazine aimed at females interested in fashion and celebrities aged 15+

The masthead "LOOK" is in large pink writing which relates it to females. It stands out from the fading blue background so the reader can easily see it. It is a short and catchy name which can be easily remembered by the reader so they are more likely to buy it again. The masthead is partly covered by the image of Cheryl Cole. This does not affect it as it is a pooular and easily identified by the audience.

The main image is of Cheryl Cole, this automatically tells the audience that she is the main feature of the magazine. The image is nearly as large as the entie cover so this provides part of the background.

The main heading is directly next to the image of Cheryl and this overlaps the image, but doenst cover her so we can still identify who she is. This shows the audience that this is the main feature in the magazine. It is shown in bright pink letters, the same as the masthead, which links the heading straight in with the magazine. Underneathe the main heading there is a subheading, "The truth about Me and Ashley", this reveals to the audience the story behind the main feature and gives them basic insight into what is going on in Cheryls life.

Above the masthead there is a strapline which gives us another insight into the the contents of the magazine. This time involving Lily Allen. There is a small image next to the strapline which shows the audience who the article is about before even reading the information presented.

Down the right hand side of the magazine there are plugs which contain more features that are included inside the magazine. These however are less important than the main feature but they still provide information that will attract the attention of the audience. There are images presented in these plugs to quickly show the audience the basic knowledge they need to understand what the feature is about.

There is a particular feature that says "Catwalk to Highstreet frock fest", this revelase to the audience that there are many styles that are straight off the catwalk appearing in highstreet stores. This magazine will show the audience what styles of dresses are the latest fashions and where on the high street they can be purchased from.

The magazine is very busy as it contains a lot of information about different features that are contained within the magazine, this will attract the attention of the audience as they will see that the magazine has a lot to offer so they will believe they are gettting value for money and will find out lots of information about the latest fashions and celebrities.

Textual Analysis of Secondary Teachers Magazine front page.

The institution in which this magazie is based on is a "teachers magazine". This front cover was taken from a magazine for professonal teachers who are teaching secondary education. The magazine is idolised to give the teachers information and a balanced view of current education.

The first aspect of the magazine that attracts my attention is the main photograph. In the photograph there are two boys of different ethnicities. this represents racial equality. The expressions on the faces of the two boys show enthusiasm for learning and enjoyment. The two boys are both actors that have been specifically chosen to make the image seem believable and this will appeal to the target audience. The boys have been dressed in dark school uniforms which helps them to contrast agains the pale background that they have been placed against. In the background there are two football shirts hanging up, this can give the audience an idea of what the article is going to be about before turning to the page. The football shirts signify a certain, popular football team which the audience can immeditely recognise as being Arsenal. On the back of the footbalol shirts there are the words "Numeracy" and "Literacy". This is showing the audience the two most important parts of education.

Another aspect of the Magazine that attracts my attention is the mast head. The word "secondary" is written in a large, bold font and underneath the word "teachers" has been printed, but much smaller. The font of both these words are the same and the colours used show that both words are of equal importance to the masthead. The coloutrs used are a mizture of greens and blues. The colours dont show any specific genre but are appealing to the reader. The word "Secondary" shows the audience that the magazine has been particularly desigfned for teacher of secondary education and this is clearly shown.

Another part of the magazine that attracts my attention is the yellow headline "Playing to learn". This is placed ontop of the image of the two boys. The audience would be attracted to this headline because it is in a bold font and is bright yellow. The colour stands out from the background image and is quiote informative to the reader about the article inside. Underneathe this headline ther is a sub heading "How football can improve their Maths and English skills" this sub-heading isnt so important as the heading that is above it but it is there because it gives that audience a little more information into the maint article inside.
